ABOUT
Charles D. Urstadt
Charles D. Urstadt is a Tony Award-winning theater producer with a track record of cultivating dynamic new works and revitalizing classic revivals.
He began his theatrical career as a lead producer in regional theater, where he developed a hands-on understanding of staging plays and musicals. His regional productions include Long Way Down (recipient of the Helen Hayes–Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding Musical), Sugar Daddy, and La Egoísta.
Urstadt made his Broadway debut as a co-producer of the Tony Award–winning Appropriate. He has since served as co-producer with an impressive roster of producers on critically acclaimed productions of Floyd Collins, Call Me Izzy, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, and Schmigadoon! (winner of the 2026 Tony Award for Best Musical).
His upcoming 2026–2027 slate includes the Broadway premieres of Wanted and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
Before entering the theater world, Urstadt built a successful career in real estate, serving as Chairman of Urstadt Biddle Properties, which owned and managed 77 commercial properties totaling more than five million square feet.
Outside of his producing ventures, he brings his business expertise to support the greater arts community. Urstadt serves on the boards of Le Petit Theatre and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and is a member of The Broadway League and The Drama League.
He divides his time between New York and New Orleans, where he lives with his husband, David Bernard, and their Boston Terrier, Dolly.
